be still.

Lake City.
Stephen's grandparents build a home there in 1968.
It has been a place for their family to go, love, spend time together & make memories for all the years in between then and now.

I love it up there. The crisp breeze, mornings on the porch with my coffee & bible in hand, homemade meals around the table.

It's just a place to get away and be with family & most importantly be with God.
God & I had some good talks that week on the porch, while fishing at the lake, and time spent at the super cozy coffee shop in town.

I could hear myself think while we were there.
I could hear God. I could feel Him.

My sister friend Chloe made us these bracelets before we left for Africa.
She chose the verse and I thought it was sort of random.
God didn't.

That week I spent a lot of time reflecting on what it means to
"Be still & know that I am God"
and honestly, since I've been home - I haven't had much time to think about it.

We NEED time away, time alone with God, time to hear Him!
It's my prayer that I will spend more time listening to Him.
Whether that means turning all my electronics off, going out to the country for the day, or whatever - I need more time like that. Alone with Him.

I will make it a priority.
I'm praying that on my trip to Africa next week (yes, story is STILL TO COME!) I will hear Him. I know that in Africa, His voice is NOT drowned out.
I can't wait.

Let's all take time this week to hear Him.
Fast from TV for the day. Or facebook. Or texting.
Whatever we have to do!

Let's BE STILL & know that He's God.
He WILL be exalted among the nations, exalted among the earth.

  2. This makes me miss Chapter Focus Week so much! When I was in college I was in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. At the end of the year was a week long retreat on the upper peninsula of Michigan. It was sooooo nice to have that time to just sit and talk to God and to actually listen to Him as well. It was a great way to finish up the school year before returning to my unbelieving family. It was great to have that extra encouragement before going home.

Sounds like you had a terrific time. And you inspired me. We live near Lake Erie and I might take the morning off tomorrow to just go and spend some time with the Lord.

  3. You go next week!? Lucky duck! I still have 3 weeks to wait. I'm so anxious I can hardly stand it. I think God's favorite places on earth are in the mountains because that's the most where i feel him.
