Although it seems like what I am doing on this trip is drastically different than what I did on the last trip – I realized last night, that it’s not. What we were doing this summer was visiting orphans & widows and what I am doing this time is visiting widows and helping these widows & former orphans care for OTHER widows and orphans. It’s amazing how people in this country are so moved by what they see. Caleb was telling us yesterday that he sees the kids on the street that are begging for food and he feels sad for them, so in return he wants to build an orphanage! Really? Is that ever our response in America? The compassion they have and dreams they have in their heart seem to always benefit someone other than themselves.
I could learn a lot from these Ugandans. They love with their heart and not their head. They seek the Lord. They pray to Him as we get in the car & drive down the road, and they stop working to pray for their sister who’s daughter is sick and needs healing. They believe with their whole heart that God can use them for His greater purposes. These people are beautiful. They bring light, and joy, and life to my soul. I am thankful for them & their example. Let’s pray that we can be more like them – in loving others and also not in such a hurry ;) We had a long talk today about “African time” and why we are so rushed in America. I pray that we will take time to be present where we are & to love those God has put around us.
It’s all about Him you know.
It’s not at all about us!
Did I mention that they are very thankful? full of life and joy? Can't you see it in their faces?
I trip like that would be so life changing. Anyone would come back home as a completely different person, with a new perspective for life and others. How great!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. As I was reading, I was shaking my head agreeing. It's so true how us Americans tend to get so caught up in our everyday superficial ways ... that we tend to forget to set some much needed time aside for BIGGER things, that are far more meaningful :)
ReplyDeleteI love AFRICA time, joy, hospitality and how they express LOVE! It is so true, we often are so bogged down with silly time eaters...even things like facebook, that we "don't make the time" (we think we don't have it), to be available for God to use us in unexpected ways during our days! Such great lessons! Enjoy your time in RWANDA!!! Thank you for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteLove reading your comments while I was in Uganda! Thank you! Cherishing my last few days in Rwanda!
