Weekend Away Part 2: my first wedding

Saturday morning after sleeping in, hanging out, coffee from Common Grounds & a quick tour of MH's new apt {oh oh and hanging out with precious HALLIE girl - her puppy who is so so sweet!} we headed to Dallas!

To preface this post - my good friend, Whitney, and I have been chatting and as it turns out I am going to photograph her September wedding in Austin! I am so so thrilled and ready for the challenge, but because I have never officially shot a wedding before I wanted a little guidance and experience before September.

Jess Graham {Barfield} allowed me to shadow her & her assistant, Taylor Warren at a wedding! Jess & Taylor also went to Baylor and although we had never met we all have many mutual friends. Jess & I have been emailing for a while and I finally just asked her if she wouldn't mind letting me shadow/assist her in a wedding this summer. This was the only weekend that I had open {I know, hard to believe} so we headed to Dallas!

They were both so fun to work with & were so kind to help me along the way. I must say, wedding photography is WAY different than portrait and jury is still out if this is something I want to get into one day. But after Saturday I couldn't stop thinking about the experience {which was a humbling one I might add} and thinking mainly about Whit's wedding and how stinking excited I am about it. My good friend, Ellen, will be assisting me that weekend and I couldn't be more excited about that! Ellen has been such a light and encouragement to me in this whole photographic journey and I am so blessed that she is going to be with me that weekend!

Here are some of my favorite images from the wedding.

  1. The pictures for your 'practice' wedding are AMAZING! And, they are MUCH better than the pictures from my wedding, which were very pricey, but are crap compared to these! You're going to do an amazing job.

  3. I LOVE your blog!!!! My entire husbands side of the family ALL went to Baylor! It was my dream school....but state school was more affrodable at the time (good for me b/c my husband was the only one in his family who did not go to Baylor and we meet in college...God had a plan!!!) All his brothers live in Waco too.

I actually used to live in Austin and am now trying to convince my husband (who is also from Texas) to move back..wish me luck!!

I hope you don't mind a new follower!
